If you're a dog owner, you know it's important to give your dog plenty of exercise to stay agile, mentally alert, and healthy. You also know how excited your dog gets when you say "walk" or "go outside." To keep your dog happy, our real estate agents want to recommend 5 neighborhood parks where your dog can run, play, and enjoy the day.
Howard Park – 219 S. St. Louis Blvd.
Howard Park has great outdoor activities for you and your dog. The Riverwalk Trail along the west side of the park is equipped for pedestrians and cyclists, and it connects to a large network of walking trails. If you and your dog want a place to sit and relax, head to the south side of the park that houses the Vietnam Memorial and unwind in a peaceful setting with trees, gardens, and benches. If you get thirsty, head to the Chocolate Cafe To-Go for beverages and snacks.
Izaak Walton Nature Park – 20400 Darden Road
Your dog will love the Izaak Walton Nature Park with 6 different hiking trails that wind through the park. Buyers looking for South Bend homes for sale are impressed by so many nature trails with hiking paths, mature trees, creeks and ponds, and picnic areas. If your dog loves to run and go on hikes, this may become a regular spot for hiking some beautiful trails:
Niles Avenue Park – 900 N. Niles Avenue
Your dog will love this park because it's South Bend's first dog park. It's divided into two sections, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. Each section provides interactive amenities for dogs and their owners to play and socialize. The dog park provides a fun, safe environment, but it is not monitored so you enter at your own risk. If your dog plays well with other dogs, this can be a fun adventure that will give your dog a great night's sleep when you get home.
Pinhook Park – 2801 Riverside Drive
Pinhook Park offers a variety of park activities like mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, and swimming, as well as relaxing areas for picnics. There is a wonderful fishing area and a lake and lagoon where you can relax and enjoy nature. This park is large with a lot of different family activities, and the Niles Avenue Dog Park is actually located within the boundaries of Pinhook Park at 721 N. Niles Avenue, so you don't even have to leave the park.
Rum Village Park – 2626 S. Gertrude Street
Rum Village Dog Park has an area for small dogs and one for large dogs, and a community area with a pavilion. This park is home to acres of walking trails with big trees and diverse wildlife like deer, foxes, and hundreds of bird species like owls, warblers, and woodpeckers. You and your dog can walk the trails, relax under the trees, and listen to the beautiful sounds of chirping birds.
