Nothing warms you up like a great meal from local South Bend restaurants. Here are some of the best to visit this winter.

Chilly weather is upon us, but South Bend is full of unique restaurants serving delicious, and most importantly, hot food to help you warm up. Check out these local favorites our real estate agents recommend.

  • Carmela's at Macri's — 214 North Niles Avenue
If you love traditional Italian dishes, you'll love Carmela's. Warm up not only with hot food, but also a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This family-owned, multi-generational Italian restaurant offers a wide variety of Italian dishes made with family recipes, bringing a love of good Italian food from their family to yours. For a memorably warm experience, check out their lasagna, lobster ravioli, or baked cheese tortellini.

  • The Lauber — 504 East Lasalle Avenue
The Lauber is a trendy East Bank restaurant housed in the historical building where J.C. Lauber & Co. Manufactured sheet metal. Tied into South Bend's manufacturing history in this way, the Lauber is known for their house-made pizzas, but they also offer a variety of salads, sandwiches, and cocktails. The industrial-style building features a fantastic patio, but of course in cold weather, you'll want to head inside for a hot pizza topped with plenty of melted cheese.

  • Woochi Japanese Fusion — 119 North Michigan Street
Whether you're looking for traditional sushi or inspired Japanese fusion, Woochi is South Bend's favorite spot for Japanese cuisine. While Woochi boasts ultra-fresh seafood and premium sushi, when it's cold out you'll probably be most interested in warming up with a dish of warm noodles or other Asian favorites. Next time you're feeling the chill of winter, check out their variety of Asian fusion dishes, such as General Tso's chicken, ramen, and pad Thai, and top-notch cocktails.

  • Fiddler's Hearth — 127 North Main Street
For traditional Irish pub food, live music, and an unforgettable evening, Fiddler's Hearth invites you to come in from the cold! Here you'll find plenty of hot traditional favorites such as bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage, and Molly Malone stew. Looking for a little extra heat? You might just love the Indian curry, which, believe it or not, is a UK favorite. Temper the heat with a cold beer on tap, and be sure to check out their schedule of live music as well.

  • PEGGS — 127 South Michigan Street
For over two decades, Peg has owned and operated her family diner in South Bend. Here you'll find an atmosphere so warm and welcoming that you almost don't need the food to warm up, though it sure doesn't hurt. PEGGS serves all the favorites you'd expect to see at a breakfast diner, from traditional breakfast dishes such as piping hot omelets, chicken and waffles, and French toast, to a selection of burgers and hot sandwiches on their lunch menu.

The wide selection of local indie restaurants and other small businesses is just one facet of the community waiting for you in South Bend. If you're ready to move, South Bend is ready to welcome you with open arms, and there are plenty of South Bend homes for sale to choose from!
